Schedule a transaction

Set up a recurring transaction that posts itself, or waits for your approval.

Anything with a rhythm can post itself: rent, a subscription, a paycheque, an insurance payment.

Steps

To schedule a transaction, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings tab and tap Scheduled Transactions.

  2. Tap Create Schedule.

  3. Set the Kind: Payment, Deposit, or Transfer.

  4. Choose the Account, the Payee, and the Category.

  5. Set the amount and its Match:

    MatchUse it for
ExactAn amount that never varies, such as rent
ApproximateAn amount that drifts, such as a utility bill
    RangeAn amount with known bounds
  6. Set the Recurrence: Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly, and the days it falls on.

Monthly offers Last day of the month, which is what you want for anything due at month end: it gives Jan 31, Feb 28, and Mar 31 rather than drifting.

  7. Choose what happens If it lands on a weekend.

  8. Set Post automatically on or off.

  9. Check the Preview, which lists the next few dates.

  10. Tap Save.

Auto or manual

Post automatically on makes the transaction appear on its date without asking. Use it for anything whose amount you know, such as rent.

Off makes it wait in the register under the scheduled section, where you Approve or Skip each occurrence. Use it for anything you want to check first, such as a variable utility bill.

Either way the upcoming occurrences show in the register before they post, so the next few weeks are visible.

Ending a schedule

Set an End date, or delete the schedule. Deleting removes the schedule and its future occurrences; transactions it already posted stay, because they really happened.

Tip

Link a category’s goal to a schedule and the budget follows the bill. Change the amount on the schedule and the envelope’s target changes with it. Refer to Set a goal for an envelope.
