Undo a change
Take back an edit, a bulk change, or a deletion, and see a labelled history of what you did.
Undo covers everything: single edits, bulk changes, deletions, budget assignments, account changes. If it changed your data, it can be taken back.
Steps
To undo a change, follow these steps:
- Tap More in the toolbar.
- Tap Undo.
A toast confirms what was undone, by name, so you know which change went back.
To redo, tap More then Redo.
The history
More then History lists your recent changes with labels, so you can see what happened before deciding how far to go back. It is the fastest way to answer “what did I just do” after a distracting few minutes.
Shake to undo
Shaking the device undoes as well, which is quicker when your hands are already on the phone.
What undo covers
Anything that changed your budget file. A bulk edit is one step, so undoing a two-hundred-row recategorisation is one action rather than two hundred.
What undo does not cover
It does not survive quitting the app. The history is held in memory for the current session, so closing Pentos and reopening it starts with an empty history. Anything you want to be able to take back, take back before you leave.
The history is also cleared when you switch budget files, and when you restore from a backup.
Settings are not undoable, because they are preferences rather than data. Changing the budgeting method, the date format, or Hide Amounts is not an undo step.
Nor is anything outside the file: a backup you exported stays exported, and an account you closed at your bank stays closed.
