Transfer between accounts
Move money between two of your own accounts as a single paired transaction.
A transfer moves money from one of your accounts to another. Because the money never leaves you, a transfer has no category and does not touch your envelopes.
Steps
To transfer between accounts, follow these steps:
- Open the Accounts tab and tap the account the money is leaving.
- Tap Add Transaction.
- Set the Kind to Transfer.
- Choose the other account.
- Enter the Date and the amount.
- Tap Save.
Both accounts update at once.
Transfers are always a pair
A transfer is two rows, one in each account, kept together permanently. Editing either one edits both, and deleting either one deletes both. There is no way to end up with half a transfer.
That is why you edit a transfer by opening either leg and changing it, rather than by fixing up each side.
When one account is off budget
Moving money from an On Budget account to an Off Budget one takes it out of your budget. It leaves To Budget and stops being money you can assign, because it is now in an account the budget does not count.
Moving it the other way brings it in, and it arrives in To Budget ready to assign.
Paying a credit card is a transfer, not an expense. The spending was already recorded when you used the card, and categorising the payment too would count it twice.
